More Energy. More Capacity. More Possibility: Building the network to take on more energy and create greater value for the communities we serve.
A stronger electricity network is built through thousands of decisions, constant monitoring, network management, infrastructure readiness and, importantly, people committed to making the system work better.
At Abuja Electricity Distribution Plc (AEDC), we are seeing that work reflected in our latest energy uptake figures. Our average hourly power offtake has risen from 548MW to approximately 718MW, an increase of 170MW, representing 31% growth in hourly energy uptake. Our highest recorded hourly reading during the period reviewed reached 747.97MW.
For us, this is more than an operational milestone. It is evidence of a distribution network building its capacity to receive, manage and utilise more energy effectively.
But the real significance of the number lies in what that energy makes possible. Electricity powers businesses, supports healthcare, enables learning and creates opportunities for people and communities to grow.
And behind the numbers are people. From our control rooms and field teams to our engineers, operations teams and the many people working behind the scenes, their expertise, commitment and daily decisions help keep the network moving. This milestone carries the imprint of that collective effort.
Our responsibility is therefore not simply to take more energy, but to continuously strengthen our ability to distribute it effectively, respond better, identify challenges earlier and use data and technology to make smarter decisions.
There is a bigger purpose to this work. Stronger electricity distribution creates a stronger platform for businesses, entrepreneurs and communities to grow. When we strengthen the network, we contribute to the economic activity and opportunities that drive progress across Nigeria and, ultimately, Africa.
As our Managing Director and CEO, Engr. Chijioke Z. Okwuokenye, FNSE, puts it, increased energy offtake is encouraging, but our responsibility does not end with taking more energy. We must continue strengthening our network and operational capabilities so that available energy can be utilised effectively and translated into value for our customers.
718MW is the milestone. Making every megawatt count is the mission.
And behind every megawatt is a team making it possible, while in front of it are the customers and communities counting on us to deliver.
