The Meter Asset Provider (MAP) Scheme was initiated by Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) in a bid to close the metering gap and eliminate estimated billing. Meter Asset Providers (MAP) are accredited third-party vendors mandated to finance, install, maintain and replace end-user electricity meters where applicable. The cost of the meters is regulated and determined through a transparent procurement process and under the MAP Scheme, customers have the option to pay upfront for the full cost of the meter with the assurance of refund via electricity units over a period of 36 months.
