At Abuja Electricity Distribution Plc (AEDC), we see leadership not simply as occupying a position, but as accepting the responsibility to create value, influence positive change and contribute to something bigger than the organisation itself.

It is therefore with great pride that we announce the appointment of our Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Chijioke Okwuokenye, as a member representing Distribution Companies (DisCos) on the 5th Independent Stakeholder Advisory Panel (ISAP) of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).

Conveyed by NERC in a letter dated 22 September 2026, the appointment took effect on 29 September 2026 and will run through the tenure of the 5th ISAP, scheduled to conclude on 29 January 2028.

For AEDC, this is more than an appointment. It is a seat at the table and with that seat comes a responsibility to contribute.

We believe that the transformation of Nigeria’s electricity sector will not happen through regulation alone. It will require strong institutions, courageous leadership, collaboration across the value chain and organisations willing to bring their experience to the table in pursuit of sustainable solutions.

This is the spirit in which AEDC approaches this opportunity.

Our representation on the Panel provides an avenue to bring the realities, opportunities and challenges of electricity distribution into broader industry conversations, while contributing to initiatives that can strengthen the electricity market and create better outcomes for customers.

It also reflects a philosophy that is central to how we see our role in the sector: business success and national development should not be mutually exclusive.

As we continue to improve our operations, deepen customer trust and build a more resilient distribution network, we recognise that our responsibility extends beyond delivering electricity. We must contribute to building an electricity industry that can support businesses, empower communities, unlock economic opportunities and ultimately contribute to Nigeria’s development.

We are therefore proud to have Engr. Chijioke Okwuokenye represent the DisCo community on this important platform.

His appointment is a recognition of his leadership, but it is also a reflection of AEDC’s growing contribution to the conversations shaping the future of the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry.

We congratulate our MD/CEO on this milestone and look forward to using this opportunity to connect, contribute and create value for the industry and the millions of customers we collectively serve.

The work is bigger than us. The responsibility is ours. And the opportunity to build a better electricity sector is one we are ready to embrace.
