Dr. Mohammed Usman Gur holds a B.Sc. (Hons.) in Accountancy from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, an MBA in Management from Bayero University, Kano, and a Ph.D. in Finance and Accounts from Nasarawa State University, Keffi.
A Chartered Accountant with over 30 years of professional experience, Dr. Gur has distinguished himself in the Nigerian power sector through his leadership in utility reform, financial management, and infrastructure development. He possesses extensive expertise in power system planning, project management, and institutional restructuring.
As Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Transmission Company of Nigeria, he successfully transformed the company’s operations and expanded transmission capacity nationwide. He initiated the Transmission Rehabilitation and Expansion Programme, which attracted over US$1.6 billion in multilateral funding, and completed Nigeria’s first 20-Year Least Cost Transmission Expansion Plan.
As Chairman of the West African Power Pool Executive Board, Dr. Gur provided strategic leadership that strengthened regional electricity cooperation, launched the ECOWAS Electricity Market, and advanced the ECOWAS Generation and Transmission Master Plan.
He previously served with the African Development Bank as Principal Disbursement Officer, managing a significant public-sector portfolio and contributing to the Bank’s New Deal on Energy for Africa initiative.
Dr. Gur is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and a respected speaker on energy reform and sustainable infrastructure development.
